NUM KZN Region Supports The Emergency Plan Put In Place By Eskom For The Lockdown

24th March 2020

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) in KwaZulu-Natal Region can confirm that it has been in consultation with Eskom in preparation for the lockdown that has been announced by the President of the country last night.

We have given our rectifications to the plan and we believe under these trying times the employer has managed to do the correct thing which is to consult us as stakeholders

The plan shows that during the next 21 days all Eskom employees will have to comply with the call from the president to be at homes, therefore Eskom has established Emergency prepared task teams which will be working under the strict watchful eye of the military to make sure there’s continuity of electricity supply

Furthermore, all other employees must remain in their homes and be ready to substitute those who will be in isolation

We also noted that these employees who have volunteered to be the first in servicing the nation during lockdown will be under serious health monitoring and their place of isolation will be strictly disinfected

We have agreed with the employer to constantly monitor the lives of these teams and the employer gave assurance of making sure they will communicate with families in this 21 days lockdown period.

Employer will also give support to their families through following proper precautions in line with the regulations made by the government.

We wish well to all members who will be taking this task and hope the situation is contained within the 21 days stipulated

Let pray for the country and all Eskom guardians.

Nkosi sikele’liAfrica

Amandla!!!
