The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape has welcomed the appointment of Eastern Cape ANC chairperson Oscar Mabuyane as the new premier candidate of the province.
In a statement on Tuesday, the ANC said that it believed the appointment would bring political stability and new vigour in terms of providing a better life to all the people of the province.
ANC Eastern Cape provincial secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi said Mabuyane possessed the vision to steer the province to greater heights and improve service delivery, a path that had been steered by his predecessor, Phumulo Masualle.
"The appointment of the premier candidate who has been part of the executive shows the ANC's commitment to ensuring that there is smooth transition in the province. This testifies to the ANC's ability to lead and ensure that there is stability in the province. Critically, Comrade Mabuyane will operate as part of a collective of men and women who are tried and tested in championing the cause of our people."
He said that Mabuyane brought a wealth of experience which became evident during his short stint in government at the helm of the department of finance ,economic development, environmental affairs and tourism.
"The ANC would like to assure the people of Eastern Cape that the transition will be a seamless one and that there will be policy continuity."
The ANC won control of the province in last week's national elections and traditionally announces its premier candidates after the polls.
