Following what he calls “non-partisan feedback” Gauteng Premier David Makhura has returned Panyaza Lesufi to the province’s Education portfolio as Education and Youth Development MEC.

On Wednesday, Makhura had announced that Lesufi would lead the Finance and e-Government portfolio, but following criticism around the move, Makhura said he had given serious consideration to the issue.

Makhura defended his decision to appoint each MEC to a specific portfolio and said it was not made lightly. Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko will take over the Finance and e-Government portfolio.

ANC region reminds new Transport Minister about removal of e-tolls

The ANC in Gauteng's Ekurhuleni region has alerted new Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula to the contentious e-tolls matter that awaits his urgent attention as he takes office.

The region held its executive council meeting this week and congratulated President Cyril Ramaphosa and his newly appointed 28-member Cabinet.

The REC highlighted the need for the new minister of transport and the MEC of Public Transport and Road infrastructure, Jacob Mamabolo, to pay urgent attention to e-tolls.

The region said the ANC continued to unapologetically stand firm behind the resolution of the 13th provincial conference which resolved quite decisively on e-tolls."

IFP youth march against eThekwini Mayor

Thousands of Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade members in the eThekwini District are marching against the Mayor Zandile Gumede in Durban.

They are calling for the Mayor to be suspended from all work in the city council due to the scathing charges she faces.

Youth Brigade national chairperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa said they cannot have one person holding the whole City to ransom and added that Gumede should step down until such a time that she has cleared her name.
