Jiba's lawyer won't be drawn on Mokgoro inquiry sacking recommendation

Davies and Mboweni in Lesotho for SACU meeting

And, another cyclone expected to hit Mozambique today

Jiba's lawyer won't be drawn on Mokgoro inquiry sacking recommendation

The lawyer for suspended deputy National Prosecuting Authority boss Nomgcobo Jiba has declined to comment on the Mokgoro inquiry report, which has recommended that his client be fired by President Cyril Ramaphosa

Retired Constitutional Court justice Yvonne Mokgoro has also recommended that advocate Lawrence Mrwebi should also be sacked.

Mokgoro's report said Jiba's conduct on multiple instances showed a "lack of conscientiousness", while Mrwebi was found to have failed to act without favour and to the prejudice of the NPA.

Davies and Mboweni in Lesotho for SACU meeting

Trade and Industry Minister Dr Rob Davies and Finance Minister Tito Mboweni are in Lesotho, where they will attend the Southern African Customs Union "Council of Ministers" meeting today.

Lesotho is the current chair of the SACU, whose members are Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia and South Africa.

The meeting will deliberate on matters internal to SACU such as the administration of the customs union and negotiations with third countries or regions.

Another cyclone expected to hit Mozambique today

Another tropical cyclone is expected to make landfall on Mozambique's coast today, just over a month after a more powerful storm struck the port city of Beira and killed hundreds of people.

Weather forecasters say Cyclone Kenneth will bring heavy rainfall, strong winds and waves of several metres to the southern African nation, which is still reeling from the effects of devastating Cyclone Idai.

The directorate issued a recommendation that people living in areas at risk should move immediately to high ground, while warnings were being broadcast in local media.
