Reports from the George Municipality indicate that following the building collapse on May 6th, 25 people were injured and were taken to hospital. Regrettably, this disaster has also claimed five lives.
The DA extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. This is the biggest disaster that George has ever experienced in recent years.
The DA in George remains positive and hopeful that the combined efforts between George Municipality, the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Provincial Government will help rescue the remaining survivors.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased as well as the families of those that are in hospital and still trapped under the building rubble.
The DA Political Head, Dr Mimmy Gondwe, was on site early this morning and commends the combined efforts of the various rescue teams, volunteers and all the individuals and businesses involved that have made generous donations and contributions in the past 20 hours, in assisting those impacted by this tragic disaster.
