The Democratic Alliance's (DA) Mayoral Selection Panel met virtually last week Friday to interview the candidates who applied to fill the Mayoral vacancy in Oudtshoorn.
The interviews followed a public call for application, in which 5 candidates were interviewed. The candidates were required to submit a detailed written assignment. They then each underwent an in-depth interview before the 20-member Selection Panel, in which they were questioned on their vision for the future of Oudtshoorn, their understanding of the challenges facing Oudtshoorn, financial sustainability and their plan to address these challenges.
Each candidate was then scored by the panel, and these scores were combined to yield a result. This result was then approved by the DA’s Federal Executive before considered finalised.
After this rigorous process, the DA is pleased to announce that Chris Macpherson has been nominated as the DA’s Mayoral Candidate for Oudtshoorn. We congratulate Chris and wish him everything of the best in his term ahead.
Chris brings integrity, energy, and intelligence to the job. He and the DA team in Oudtshoorn will restore the integrity of the Oudtshoorn Council and will show the DA difference in government.
Chris and his team will work to win the trust of every voter in Oudtshoorn. They will show that DA governments can be trusted to respect public resources and deliver better services to all residents.
Importantly, our government in Oudtshoorn will focus on delivering services to all the people of Oudsthoorn, attracting investment to grow the local economy, which in turn will create jobs.
Oudtshoorn is a diverse town, and proud of its rich history. We are confident that Chris and his team will build on this legacy to ensure that Oudsthoorn is restored to its full glory and that it remains one of the best places to live in the Garden Route District.
Chris has extensive experience and a successful career spanning over 34 years in active politics. He served as a councillor, member of the Provincial Parliament, and most recently as Speaker in the Oudtshoorn Council.
