A decade since the inception of the WWF-SASSI Retailer/ Supplier Participation Scheme in 2008, ten of South Africa’s retail, supply, restaurant chain and hospitality giants have come on board – sailing towards healthier oceans.
The scheme acts as a platform for major South African seafood companies to make public commitments to sourcing sustainable seafood.
These include sourcing WWF-SASSI Green-listed species, operations endorsed by third-party certification schemes Marine Stewardship Council and Aquaculture Stewardship Council, or from sources involved in credible improvement projects.
This report provides milestones of the scheme over the past ten years, as well as the individual progress towards the participant’s commitments in 2018.
