The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) on Friday confirmed that its leader, Kenneth Meshoe, and member of parliament, Steve Swart, have tested positive for Covid-19.
"Our hope & trust is always in our God and with him, we are able to overcome all things, including this Covid-19 pandemic," the party posted on its Twitter account.
Meshoe and Swart were among those who attended the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast hosted by the Divine Restoration Ministries in Ribblesdale, Bloemfontein. The meeting was also attended by five other people who have tested positive for the virus.
The event took place prior to the nationwide ban on public gatherings of more than 100 people.
On Friday morning, health minister Zweli Mkhize announced the first two Covid-19 related deaths in South Africa.
