Trade union Solidarity yesterday on request forwarded all correspondence on the ongoing crisis at Denel which had been addressed to former Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown, to the newly appointed minister, Pravin Gordhan.
According to Solidarity Deputy General Secretary Deon Reyneke, the trade union is calling for an independent forensic audit into financial mismanagement without leaving the whistleblowers in a vulnerable position.
The trade union also requested that a final decision on the proposed retrenchment process, involving up to 700 employees, be postponed pending a thorough investigation into and assessment of the entity’s financial status.
“We have called on the minister to treat our requests in a serious light and we trust that he would respond accordingly,” Reyneke said.
