With natural resources depleting at an alarming rate due to man-made interferences with the environment, KwaZulu-Natal for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Nomusa Dube-Ncube will on Thursday embark on a two-pronged fight against Climate Change and diminishing wetland areas in the province.
Dube-Ncube will on Thursday morning embark on the cleaning of a sprawling and expansive vulnerable wetland area in Ward 4, Inchanga and create awareness to the local communities.
Later on the day, the MEC will embark on a clean-up campaign in Ward 29, Mayville, eThekwini as part of the Good Green Deeds and Climate Change awareness campaign.
“We are living at a critical time in our lives where we need to respond decisively to disasters happening especially in this province. Compounding this is the flagrant litter in our neighbourhood which creates a number of challenges. These include air pollution when such waste decompose or when it gets burned,” said Dube-Ncube.
“I really must say we are also responding to KwaZulu-Natal Citizen Satisfaction Survey of 2018, which states that there is an improper refuse disposal throughout the province. It further provides the provincial stakeholders an analytical framework to assist in developing an understanding of the concept of “Sustainable Development and Waste Management”. Our intervention will mitigate the disconnection between economic growth and protection of natural capital,” said Dube-Ncube.
The roadshows which will be held in two other districts; Harry Gwala and uThukela seek to create awareness, impart knowledge, change attitudes and encourage participation of communities
