ANC veterans urge Khoza to reconsider resignation

ANC stalwarts and veterans today urged Makhosi Khoza to reconsider her resignation from the ruling party, saying “they should not abandon the ANC to those who are involved in State capture and corruption”.

Khoza quit the ruling party yesterday with a stinging parting shot, saying this was no longer the ANC that she knew‚ and that this ANC was alien and corrupt”.

Responding to her resignation, the ANC veterans said while Khoza has shown a principled position above self-interest in the way she has approached her responsibilities within Parliament, they believe that her decision, whilst understandable, was not the correct one and that she should carefully reconsider her decision.

SACP KZN says Ramaphosa 'scandal' nothing new and that intelligence authorities are compromised

The saga around Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa's alleged extramarital affair is nothing new considering the ANC is approaching its elective conference, the South African Communist Party in KZN has said.

SACP provincial secretary Themba Mthembu yesterday said it dated back to the days of President Thabo Mbeki. These tactics featured strongly going into Polokwane, and now strongly going into the December conference.

Mthembu made the comments on behalf of the SACP during his testimony at the Moerane Commission for political killings in KZN which are being held in Mayville, in Durban.

Mthembu said there was a high level of abuse of intelligence resources by the State that led to leaks similar to Ramaphosa's alleged sex tape.

And, Bheki Cele says there are corrupt officials in the agriculture department

An anti-corruption unit should be established to investigate corruption in the agricultural industry, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery Bheki Cele said yesterday.

Cele was speaking at an Agricultural Imbizo in Umlazi, south of Durban, aimed at promoting urban farming.

He said when he recently went to the department’s offices in Cato Ridge, west of Durban, he discovered that new tractors bought by the government were "covered in grass" instead of helping developing farmers.

Rotten seeds had also been discovered in Umhlabuyalingana, north of KZN, he said.
