Tshwane city manager heads to court to block GladAfrica report

Tshwane city manager Moeketsi Mosola is heading to court in a bid to stop a preliminary report into the GladAfrica scandal being handed out in council.

GladAfrica, an engineering company, and the City have been at the centre of allegations of tender irregularities for the past two months, following reports that it scored a R12 billion deal to provide the City with project management support.

A news agency has seen urgent application court papers, which were lodged by Mosola in the Labour Court yesterday evening, seeking to have the matter heard tomorrow which is the same day the report is expected to be shared with the capital city’s councillors.

Consumer price inflation stays at 4.9%

Consumer price inflation remained at 4.9% in September 2018, unchanged from August 2018, Statistics South Africa said today.

In a statement, Stats SA said the consumer price index increased by 0.5% month-on-month in September 2018.

The statement said the index increased by 0.8% month-on-month, mainly due to increases in actual rentals for housing to 1.4% and owners’ equivalent rent to 1.2%.

SABC board member interviews rescheduled

The Portfolio Committee on Communications has rescheduled the interviews of 12 candidates vying for four vacancies on the SABC board.

The interviews were initially scheduled for October 30 but have now been moved to November 6.

Committee chairperson Humphrey Maxegwana said in a statement that the rescheduling was necessary due to a prolonged process involving the screening of candidates by the State Security Agency and the non-availability of some candidates on the initial date due to prior engagements.
