ZANU-PF tells Mugabe to resign or face impeachment

Zimbabwe's ruling party has told Robert Mugabe that he must resign as president of the country by midday today, or face impeachment.

The ultimatum given to the veteran leader, who has been in power for 37 years, came five days after the military seized power and placed Mugabe under house arrest.

Yesterday, the ruling ZANU-PF party dismissed Mugabe as its leader and also expelled his wife, Grace, from its ranks.

Members also voted to name sacked Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who Mugabe fired on November 6, as new party leader.

Mbeki says ANC has been captured by a dominant faction

Former President Thabo Mbeki has described a political party he once led as captured.

He asked the ANC stalwarts, its alliance partners and the country to help liberate the 105 year-old-party.

Mbeki, who had spent the past three days attending the ANC’s veterans and stalwarts’ national consultative council, was given a chance to address the conference ahead of its closing yesterday.

The event, which was attended by several ANC leaders in their personal capacity, was not sanctioned by the ANC and its national executive committee, which also refused to deploy any of its leadership collective to address attendees.

Sasfu says Zuma must investigate Brian Molefe military appointment

The South African Security Forces Union has called on President Jacob Zuma to investigate and reverse the military's appointment of Brian Molefe.

In a statement, Sasfu president Charles Jacobs said Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula had to reverse the decision and recover all monies paid to Molefe, as well as launch an investigation into the matter, taking appropriate action.

Jacobs said Sasfu shall not sit back and watch the integrity of the defence force dragged through the mud.

Sunday newspaper City Press reported that Molefe was appointed as a military colonel and has earned R57 000 a month since August despite having no military background.
