EFF files notice to remove DA mayor Athol Trollip

The EFF has filed a notice of intent to bring a motion of no confidence against Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Athol Trollip.

The notice calls for a special council sitting on March 29.

The EFF wrote that Trollip had failed to champion the plight of the poor by allowing the DA to attempt to remove informal traders from the streets.

The letter also accuses Trollip of redirecting money, aimed at tarring roads in various wards, to use towards Ironman 40 kilometers stretch roads.

Trollip, Sars boss says he has cordial working relations with finance minister

Commissioner of the South African Revenue Services, Tom Moyane, yesterday said that he had an amicable working relation with his new boss, Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene.

Moyane was speaking at an urgent press briefing to announce the resignation of Sars Chief Officer responsible for Business and Individual Taxes, Jonas Makwakwa.

He said he had a good relationship with Nene and his deputy Mondli Gungubele and added that their priority was to effectively and efficiently collect all revenue due to the South African fiscus.

NPA head says Zuma is not getting special treatment

To inform former president Jacob Zuma about his decision relating to the corruption charges against him is not special treatment, the National Director Public Prosecutions told the Standing Committee on Public Accounts on yesterday evening.

Shortly before Shaun Abrahams was due to appear before the Scopa, the Constitutional Court dismissed an application by the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution, which sought to delay Abrahams's announcement on whether Zuma should be prosecuted in the "spy tapes" saga, which could lead to possible charges of fraud, corruption and racketeering.

Abrahams told the committee he could not provide them with a preview of his decision before informing Zuma.
