Stone Sizani says there's no way SA will be allowed to fail'

There is no way South Africa will be allowed to fail, South African ambassador to Germany Stone Sizani said as he encouraged small businesses and key stakeholders of the tourism sector in their efforts to promote the country.

The ambassador was speaking at an event hosted by the South African embassy, ahead of the 53rd edition of the Internationale Tourisms-Borse world trade show, in Berlin, in Germany.

A total of 50 tourism products and services including small businesses and key stakeholders in South Africa's tourism industry will showcase what the country has to offer at the trade show.

Eskom warns of high risk of rotational powercuts

State-owned electricity company Eskom warned today that the risk of rotational powercuts to ease pressure on the grid remained high.

Cash strapped Eskom, which supplies about 95 percent of South Africa's electricity, has struggled to meet demand and was forced to implement rolling blackouts for several days last month to avoid tripping the national grid. 

Eskom said load-shedding will only be implemented if absolutely necessary.

Senegal's president officially declared election winner

Senegalese President Macky Sall was officially declared winner of the February 24 vote, after the constitutional council confirmed his re-election with 58 percent of votes.

Provisional results announced by Senegal's official counting body last week had showed Sall comfortably securing a second term without a run-off vote.

Sall had been tipped to win after a first term that propelled the West African country's economic growth to more than 6% – one of the highest on the continent.
