The federal executive of the DA has decided to suspend City of Cape Town Mayor Patricia De Lille from party activities pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into a series of reports and an affidavit containing allegations of maladministration in the city.

This comes after the conclusion of an investigation of the allegations by a subcommittee.

DA spokesperson Phumzile van Damme said the subcommittee "found sufficient management and governance-related challenges prevalent in the DA's City of Cape Town caucus, negatively impacting the city's mandate to govern efficiently for the people of Cape Town.

Dlamini files affidavit on why she should not personally pay for Sassa

Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini has submitted an affidavit to the Constitutional Court to explain why she should not be made to personally pay the legal costs of the South Africa Social Security Agency social grants court case.

She said she had never considered the workstreams, which she put together to help with social grants, to be a "parallel" process to Sassa.

Sassa had been under pressure to find a solution to insourcing all the functions required to distribute 11 million social grants following the Constitutional Court order that the contract with Cash Paymaster Services was unlawful.

Maimane says Zuma is a 'tsotsi' and 'delinquent litigant'

President Jacob Zuma is a "delinquent litigant", DA leader Mmusi Maimane said yesterday.

Maimane was reacting to Zuma's appeal against the North Gauteng High Court’s ruling in Pretoria's that National Prosecuting Authority head Shaun Abrahams should step down from his position.

In the landmark judgment last week, Judge Dunstan Mlambo also ruled that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa should appoint the new National Prosecuting Authority head, as Zuma was conflicted.
