Corruption charges laid against acting Sars boss Mark Kingon
Corruption charges have been filed against acting South African Revenue Service commissioner Mark Kingon by an unknown and obscure organisation named the Anti-Poverty Forum.
The charge was laid by APF's director Phapano Phasha on Tuesday at the Brooklyn police station.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo confirmed that a case of corruption had been opened against a government employee, but would not reveal the employee's identity.
The docket has now been handed over to the Hawks for further investigation.
Committee says Mokonyane ignored reports on financial mismanagement
The Department of Water and Sanitation's internal audit committee had given its former minister, Nomvula Mokonyane, detailed quarterly reports about serious financial mismanagement in her department – but she ignored them all.
The department has more than R6-million in irregular expenditure and has delivered very little infrastructure development, Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts heard yesterday.
Japie du Plessis, chairperson of the department's internal audit committee, handed a bulging file to Scopa chairperson Themba Godi, containing reports with details of the department's irregular and wasteful expenditure from September 2016.
Robben Island Museum holds night vigil for Mandela and Sisulu
The Robben Island Museum hosted a 12-hour night vigil this week to mark the conclusion of a year dedicated to celebrating the 100th anniversary of the births of Nelson Mandela and Albertina Sisulu.
The day also marked the fifth anniversary since the death of Mandela, who died on December 5, 2013. It also marked the birthday of former PAC leader Robert Sobukwe.
The museum also celebrated the lives of other struggle stalwarts such as Harry Gwala and Fikile Bam.
