Tomorrow, 14 February 2019, the Democratic Alliance Federal Chairperson, James Selfe, will be in attendance at the Constitutional Court to hear arguments on whether a record of decisions should be made available when Executive decisions are taken on review.
These proceedings follow the precedent-setting North Gauteng High Court ruling in May 2017, which found that former President Jacob Zuma should have provided the reasons and record of decision to axe Pravin Gordhan and Mcebisi Jonas, during his midnight Cabinet reshuffle.
The DA has long held that a President’s decision to reshuffle his/her Cabinet must be rational and cannot merely be on the basis of discretion alone, as this is often just an excuse to appoint individuals who serve for their own personal gain rather than the best interests of our country.
The court proceedings will take place as follows:
Date: Thursday, 14 February 2019
Time: 10:00
Address: Constitutional Court, Constitution Hill, 1 Hospital St, Johannesburg, 2017
